Wanted: Full Time Police Officer

This is a full-time, experience-only position as a municipal police officer with a community-oriented police department.  The person in this position conducts law enforcement and peacekeeping activities, establishes strong involvement with the community using problem solving skills to address issues of concern, and, is responsible for crime prevention and repression, traffic law enforcement, parking enforcement, protective patrol services, arbitration in neighborhood and family disputes, apprehension and arrest (or citation or warning) of criminal law violators and recovery of stolen property.

Work is performed in accordance applicable statutory law, case law, accreditation standards and department policy. Work involves an element of personal danger and, as work is at times performed without the presence of a supervisor, employees must be able to make decisions and act independently without direct supervision.  Employees must exercise discretion and professional judgment when making enforcement decisions, during use of force situations and in encountering emergencies.  Assignments and special instructions are received from superior officers, who review work methods and results through personal observations, inspections, reports and discussions.

Starting salary minimum $40,000 per year plus benefits, EOE.  Benefits include healthcare co-op and retirement plan through the State of Maryland, and take-home car after probationary period.  Candidate MUST be MPTC certified.

The Town of Upper Marlboro was established in 1706, and currently 0.4 square miles with a population of 650. The Town has a busy Downtown during the week as we are home to the District Court and County Administrative Offices. The Town is gearing to annex surrounding communities, which would provide additional opportunities for promotion and growth within its Police Department.
