Today we have more ways to speak with one another than ever before. We are used to staying in touch with cell phones, internet, and email, but disasters can change things. These devices may not be available. Cell phone towers quickly become overloaded with people trying to reach friends and family. If the power is out at your home, cordless phones, internet, and email will not work either.

Visit http://do1thing.com/topics/communication for additional information and tips!

Tasks:

  • Have a phone with a cord and a car charger for your cell phone standing by in case of a power failure.
  • Develop a plan for how your family will stay in touch during a disaster.
  • Program In Case of Emergency (ICE) numbers into all family cell phones.

Below is the Town’s Schedule for the Fourth of July Holiday:

The Town of Upper Marlboro would like to remind residents to regularly mow their property to ensure compliance with the Town’s Residential Property Standards Ordinance 2016-03. A courtesy door-hanger notice will be left at properties not in compliance with the Town’s Property Standards Code as an initial warning.  If the code violation is not addressed within a week’s time, a letter will be mailed to the property owner.

Due to mechanical issues with the flatbed truck, the Town has suspend its Flatbed Truck Drop Off program until a replacement vehicle is purchased in July 2017.

As a service for homeowners, the Town allows residents to reserve the Public Works Flatbed Truck over the weekend for loading of acceptable and approved waste materials into the truck-bed for disposal the following Monday. Requests are taken on a first-come first serve basis.

In  the meantime residents are still able to place approved items out for bulk trash collection on Monday mornings.

The Town of Upper Marlboro Police Department took delivery of it’s newest patrol unit last week, a marked 2016 Ford Police Interceptor.  This unit has been assigned to Police Sgt. Washington, with his former cruiser becoming the Department’s spare unit and the 2009 Impala Cruiser being converted to a Town Administration/Code vehicle.
